BeBe Winans’ “Father in Heaven (Right Now),” featuring Gerald Albright, ascends a spot to No. 1 on Billboard’s Gospel Airplay chart (dated March 8). During the Feb. 21-27 tracking week, the song increased by 12% in plays among reporting radio stations, according to Luminate.
Winans earns his fourth Gospel Airplay leader. The song previews his album due later this year. He solely wrote the track and co-produced it with Jeff Balding. “The songs I write are like children to me and ‘Father in Heaven (Right Now)’ is a very special kid,” Winans tells Billboard.
Albright, who adds the sax flourishes on the song, reigns with his first Gospel Airplay chart entry. He is widely known as a Grammy Award-winning jazz instrumentalist. On Billboard’s Contemporary Jazz Albums chart, he has logged 18 top 10s, including six No. 1s, dating to 1988. He most recently led in 2018 as part of Dave Koz and Friends: Summer Horns II From A to Z, also with Rick Braun, Richard Elliot and Audrey Logan. Albright also boasts 15 No. 1s on the Smooth Jazz Airplay chart, most recently “Full Throttle” for three weeks last summer.
For Winans, his latest No. 1 follows “In Jesus’ Name,” which topped Gospel Airplay for a week in November 2021. Before that, “He Promised Me,” featuring Tobbi and Tommi with Kiandra, led for a week in April 2018 and “Close to You,” with CeCe Winans, his sister and longtime collaborator, dominated for 10 frames beginning in September 2009. He has scored six top 10s since the survey began in 2005.
