One of most devoted and creative singer/songwriters and musician Rich Mullins penned a song called, “Bound to Come Some Trouble.”

Here are some of the lyrics:

There’s bound to come some trouble to your life
But that ain’t nothing to be afraid of.
There’s bound to come some trouble to your life
But that ain’t no reason to fear.
I know there’s bound to come some trouble to your life
But reach out to Jesus, hold on tight.
He’s been there before and He knows what it’s like
You’ll find He’s there.

Jesus promised His disciples that in this world they would have trouble (John 16:33). He also told them to take heart because He has overcome the world. Jesus’ brother, James, a leader in the first-century Church, reiterated this idea in the first chapter of his letter. He said that we “will have many kinds of trouble.” The trials, tests, and troubles that we face in this world are for our benefit. We learn to persevere through problems. We learn to press on through persecution.

There is bound to be some trouble in each person’s life. Christians are not exempt from the troubles of this world. But we have an advantage that others simply do not have: His name is Jesus. He is the One who gives us the courage and strength to patiently persevere through the trials, tests, and troubles that we face in this life. We do not give up at the first sign of trouble! No! We rejoice because we grow stronger in the troubles. We become more like Jesus when we persevere through the troubles. We are empowered to overcome the troubles by the Lord.

Friends, whatever troubles you are facing today, do not give up. Persevere through them knowing that Jesus will give you the strength you need to overcome them. He has been there and He is still there with you in the midst of the trouble. Like brother Rich said, “Reach out to Jesus” and hold on tight.
