Gospel artiste and disc jockey Dr. D Roy Bramwell is set to be honored for his remarkable body of work in the gospel music arena at the 10th staging of the Antigua Barbuda Global Music & Media Awards (ABGMA) Festival, which is scheduled to take place from November 28 to December 1. This prestigious festival will celebrate outstanding individuals during the Legacy Ball & Media Awards on Saturday, November 30.
According to a press release from the organization, this year’s honorees embody the values of leadership, impact, and global outreach that the ABGMA promotes, and they represent excellence in media, music, and humanitarian work.
The diverse group of awardees includes prominent figures from radio, television, music, fashion, and humanitarian advocacy, acknowledging their significant contributions on both national and international scales. D Roy Bramwell will be recognized in the “Impact” category alongside fellow Jamaican awardee Kevin Heath. Other notable awardees in this category include Daniel “Goldmann” Agyin from Ghana, a celebrated multi-award-winning gospel recording artiste and humanitarian known for his influence and outreach across Africa, and Alyssa Joseph from Trinidad, an award-winning gospel recording artiste, dancer, choreographer, and radio host, recognized for her dynamic performances and significant social impact within the gospel music scene.
Douglas Bramwell, better known as Dr. D Roy, is celebrated for his simple melodies and moving lyrics, having established himself as a psalmist, praise and worship leader, and songwriter. His debut album, “Douglas R. Bramwell… In Endless Praise”, earned him a nomination for the 2009 Caribbean Gospel Best New Male Artist Award and accolades for Album of the Year. The hit single “Stand” also garnered a nomination for Song of the Year, while the album features soul-stirring tracks such as “Pour Your Oil On Me” and upbeat songs like “He Hideth” (Gospel Rock).
Beyond his musical endeavors, D Roy has cultivated a strong passion for broadcasting, influenced by Dr. Delroy Lingo, with whom he worked briefly at Impact Gospel Promotions, as well as by listening to renowned Jamaican radio icons such as Barry G, the late Tony Young, and Allan Magnus.
In recognition of his contributions to the music industry in North America and the Caribbean, Dr. Bramwell was honored with The Lifetime Achievement Award at the Caribbean Gospel Legends Music Awards in 2020. Additionally, in 2022, he received The Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award & Pin at The Global Chaplain Alliance Awards and was conferred with an Honorary Doctorate Degree from Emet Global Theological Seminary and College in Atlanta, Georgia.
Currently, Dr. D Roy hosts four shows on his GL365 Radio and Web TV, including The Gospel Joy Morning Show, Reggae Uninterrupted, Prayze Effect and Fyah Friday, continuing to influence the gospel music landscape through his passionate work.
